July is the month for summer fun. July has just begun and you know what that means, let the fireworks begin! It’s time to celebrate America’s Independence! North County San Diego has a plethora of firework shows to choose from. Grab those blankets and get ready to embrace a spectacular show of lights in the sky!
Have you ever been to Felicita Park in Escondido? It’s near Del Dios Hwy & minutes from Lake Hodges, a fun spot to hang out for an afternoon with friends and family. Enjoy the summer sun by having a picnic or barbecue and enjoying the hiking trails with new extensions soon. Parking is only 3 dollars. The City of Vista is hosting FREE Summer Movies in the Park. This month they are hosting the movie Despicable Me 3 (PG) at Brengle Terrace Park as part of the Summer Fun Fest, from 5:30-7:30pm. The Summer Fun Fest will include kids crafts, activities, face painting and of course, a bounce house!
July is the perfect month to fire up those grills and picnic in the park. Looking for the perfect spot to do so? Check out San Dieguito County Park in Del Mar – a 125-acre park featuring a variety of recreational activities including playgrounds, exercise stations, a basketball court, large open lawn and picnic areas as well as BBQ’s and restrooms. Did you know about their lookout tower? Cool place to take pictures. The park is open daily from 9:30am-sunset.
We know tickets are sold out by now but, there’s still plenty of things to see and do outside of the convention center and on the streets of the gaslamp district! Time to start preparing your costume! Comic Con, 2018 is running from July 19-22nd with a special preview night on Wednesday July 18th. This year marks the 50th year for the show, making it the country’s longest continuously-run comics and popular arts convention! With anime screenings, blood drive, Comic-Con International Film Festival, Fan Meeting rooms, games and more, this is surely a convention not to miss. Oh, and let’s not forget the incredible costumes.
Part of the TGIF Concerts in the Park series. Grab those picnic blankets and grab a basket of your favorite treats, and enjoy some live music with the whole family! Be sure to check out the line up for the rest of the summer shows, the series runs through August 21st.
Time to show off those festive hats, get dressed up, grab a mint julep and cheer on the horses for Opening Day at the Del Mar Racetrack! This year’s horse races will begin on Wednesday, July 18. More than 45,000 race fans are expected to flock this annual bash! Ladies, be sure to participate in the “One and Only Truly Fabulous Hats Contest.” Categories include: Most Glamorous, Best Racing Theme, Funniest/Most Outrageous, Best Fascinator and Flowers/All Other. Participate in the contest and you may win cash prizes.
July 20 kicks off the 4 O’Clock Friday’s Summer Concert Series at Del Mar Racetrack! Concerts are free with racetrack admission, or $20 if you arrive after the last race of the day. July’s concert series includes Tribal Seeds & Violent Femmes. But stay tuned for August and September as they will featuring many more concerts including Eagles of Death Metal, Ludacris, and Steve Aoki, to name a few!
