Kids FREE October for San Diego Museums – all month long
Kids Free in October! This annual program created by the San Diego Museum council, provides free admission to for kids 12 and under at 40 arts, cultural, and science museums in San Diego County. Explore the hidden treasures of the ocean or the far reaches of outer space. Delve into local history, visual arts, botanic gardens, scientific wonders – and more! Here are a few museums: Birch Aquarium at Scripps, San Diego Air & Space Museum, San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum, USS Midway Museum and more! For a list of all visit: Kids Free!
Bates Nut Farm – The Pumpkin Patch, Scarecrow Contest and Gourmet Food Trucks
Over 50 years of fall traditions and memories have been created at the Bates Nut Farm Pumpkin Patch. Family and friends enjoy the tractor hayrides, straw maze, petting corral and Snows Pony Rides. Grab a wheelbarrow and pick from variety of pumpkins: Big Macs, Ghost, Cinderella, Jack O’ Lantern, minis, squash, gourds and other fall décor. In addition, weekends at Bates include live entertainment from 12:00 -3:00, BBQ, kettle corn, food trucks, rock climb, bounce, slide and other family friendly events. Scream Zone Del Mar Fairgrounds
Get in the spirit of Halloween at the Del Mar Fairgrounds Scream Zone! Running from Sept. 29th-Oct.31st, this is the place to for some serious thrills! Come try your luck at KarnEvil, dare to enter the House of Horror, ride the Haunted Hayride and check out the newest attraction, The Running Dead. Experience some of the goriest, scariest fright-fests in southern California!
In honor of the community’s German founding fathers (Olivenhain is German for “olive tree”), the long-running Oktoberfest celebration returns from noon to 4pm on Sunday Oct. 9th hosted at the Olivenhain Meeting Hall located at 432 Rancho Santa Fe Road in Encinitas. Bratwurst and hot dogs will be grilled onsite, with all the trimmings. There will also be beers by Stone Brewing and other local breweries plus live German music. About 300 to 500 usually attend the free event (dinners are $12-$20).
