Looking for a few fun things to do this month?
Ahhh…The Fourth of July…The perfect holiday to celebrate our country’s birthday with family and friends. But after the 4th, what other fun things can we do in North County? Well, here’s a list of our top 10 picks!
1.) Looking for a great way to get your kids interested in art and the joy of creating something unique and imaginative? Starting July 9th, your child can enjoy a three day camp experience of a lifetime at the Oceanside Museum of Art Summer ArtQuest. The mission of Summer@ArtQuest is to foster and promote the study and appreciation of modern and contemporary art, in particular, art and artists from California. Kids will be involved in both individual and group projects. And they will have fun with art!
2.) Who doesn’t enjoy a delicious BBQ with music, games and a silent auction, especially when it’s a charity event for the Encinitas Elks? The Elks Charity BBQ is happening July 12-14. and this year the Elks are partnering with the San Diego Campfire Boys and Girls for Food, Games, Music, Dancing, and all the fun you can stand. 3.) If spending your day at the beach is your style, checkout the 9th annual Switchfoot Bro-Am on July 13th at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. This year’s event will feature a surf contest, live music performances, and nerf surf jousting exposition between surf contest heats. Since its inception in 2005, the Bro-Am has raised more than $715,000 for San Diego-based children’s charities.
4.) Interested in finding out more about astronomy and studying the stars? Join OPT and other esteemed guests at SCAE 2013 on Saturday, July 13th! There will be amazing raffles and giveaways, interesting and entertaining speakers, and awesome equipment to gawk at. SCAE is free and is is sure to be a great event for the family!
5). Are you or someone in your family a triathlete? Even if you aren’t a triathlete, the sport of triathlon is exciting to watch, and the 32nd Carlsbad Triathlon is sure to have alot of action! The Carlsbad Triathlon course begins on July 14th at Tamarack Surf Beach, and follows the coastline of Carlsbad, past scenic beaches, lagoons and a wildlife preserve. The triathlon boasts a calm ocean swim, a rolling bike course and a smooth run for the finish. This event is guaranteed to get your heart pumping!
6.) More than 45,000+ race fans are expected to attend what’s defined as one of the most fabulous, fashionable and fun festivities in the west — Opening Day at Del Mar on July 17th. This day is not only about big bets and fast horses, but celebrating the season in style. Fashion-minded guests participate in Del Mar’s annual tradition, the “One and Only Truly Fabulous Hats Contest” where entrants are judged on creativity and style. Get your tickets now!
7.) It’s time once again for Comic Con in San Diego! Starting July 19th, you can enjoy costumed characters, comic book icons, heroes and stars at this amazing event. 8). Looking for something to do on a warm summer’s night? Enjoy a beautiful evening under the stars at The Wizard of Oz at the Moonlight Amphitheatre at Brengle Terrace Park in Vista. Starting July 27th you can watch this opulent musical featuring scenery and costumes from the Madison Square Garden production! Come along for the adventure as Dorothy and her little dog Toto are transported Over the Rainbow into the magical land of Oz! It’s a great way to spend the evening with your family!
9.) Nothing beats the heat of the summer like Christmas in July! Join Santa on July 27th in South Carlsbad! Come down for the day and park right at the beach starting at 8am, get some surfing time in and then enjoy some face painting, children’s games, a lifeguard demo, pictures and a parade with Santa!.
10.) How about watching a movies under the stars? Every Wednesday throughout July and August, Stone Brewing Late Night Movies show movies on a twelve-foot screen in their gorgeous gardens. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and settle down on the grass for a fabulous night of movie night munchies, great beer and great cinema! Remember to bring extra layers: even though we’re in SoCal, nights can still get pretty chilly.
